Hydroxypropyl Cellulose (HPC) is a white or slightly yellow or gray granular or fibrous powder. Odorless and tasteless, flammable and thermoplastic. It swells into a transparent to milky white viscous colloidal solution in water. It is insoluble in water when the temperature is above 38ºC.

Hydroxypropyl Cellulose (HPC), a low-substituted hydroxypropyl cellulose (L-HPC), is mainly used as a disintegrant and binder for tablets. The characteristics of using low-substituted hydroxypropyl cellulose (L-HPC) as a binder and disintegrant are: it is easy to be pressed into shape and has strong applicability. As a tablet binder, it is generally added at 5 to 20% during wet granulation, and at 5 to 20% when the powder is directly pressed into tablets. As a tablet disintegrant, the dosage is 2 to 10%, usually 5%. It can be added internally or externally, depending on the specific prescription. Low-substituted hydroxypropyl cellulose (L-HPC) can also be used as a food additive. In the food industry, it serves as an emulsifier, stabilizer, suspending agent, thickener, and film-forming agent. It is applied in the production of beverages, pastries, jams, etc. Additionally, it is utilized in the daily chemical industry for the manufacturing of creams, shampoo, lotions, and other cosmetics.
