Colorless hexagonal crystal. Chemicalbook relative density 2.36. Almost insoluble in water and alcohol, with a solubility (18 ºC) of 0.0009g/100mL in water and a solubility product of 1.2 × 10-11, the aqueous solution is weakly alkaline.

 

Magnesium hydroxide is an excellent flame retardant for plastic and rubber products. In terms of environmental protection, as a flue gas desulfurization agent, it can replace and lime as a neutralizer for acidic wastewater and an adsorbent for heavy metals. In addition, it can also be used in the electronics industry, refining pharmaceuticals, sugar, as insulation materials, and manufacturing other magnesium salt products.
