1-octadecene is a long-chain alkene with many isomers that have different double bond positions. 1-octadecene is one of many isomers, belonging to alpha-olefin, which is a relatively inexpensive solvent and is soluble with oleic acid. 1-octadecene can be used in the synthesis of colloidal quantum dots, but in the process, it can be replaced by a heat transfer fluid such as DowthermA or Therminol66.
