Meglumine is a white crystalline powder. Melting point 128-129 ºC. Easily soluble in water, slightly soluble in ethanol (1.2g at 25 ºC and 21g at 70 ºC in 100ml ethanol). It tastes slightly sweet and salty.

Application Of Meglumine
N-Methyl-D-glucamine is used in conjunction with iodinated organic compounds in contrast media viz. diatrizoate meglumine and iodipamide meglumine. It is useful in ion-exchange resins to chelate boron ions selectively. It is also used as an excipient in pharmaceuticals, in cosmetics and X-ray contrast media.
