Quick Description

Zinc iodide appears as a white or nearly white granular powder, which gradually turns brown in the air due to the release of iodine and has deliquescence. Melting point 446 ºC, boiling point approximately 624 ºC (and decomposing into chemical books), relative density 4.736 (25 ºC). Easy to dissolve in solutions of water, ethanol, ether, and ammonium carbonate. Its aqueous solution is acidic to litmus, with a pH of approximately 5.

 

Used for iodine starch reagent to determine nitrite. Used as a reagent for analyzing free other gasifying agents.
