Choline is prone to react with acids to form more stable crystalline salts (such as Chemicalbook choline chloride), which are also unstable under strong alkaline conditions, but are quite stable for heat and storage. As a strong organic base, it can be completely ionized in water with low metal content. Its chemical properties make choline widely used in the fields of chemical engineering and semiconductors.
